The lie:
There’s a story going around that says that you can’t be a good person and a business owner at the same time.
That’s some bullshit.
You can be a good person and a business owner.
You can be a good person and make a profit.
You can be a business owner and take good care of your people and STILL make a profit.
Doing business well is not incompatible with living well, or with the people around you having their needs met, or with YOU having your needs met.
You’re not crazy: there is a tidal wave of bullshit out there right now.
Do. Not. Let. The. Bullshit. Win. You. Over.
I’m here to help you hold your ground.
Whole human
The people who work with you are people, first. Not assets, not human capital, not objects, but people. When we take care of the people, we take care of everything the people do, which is everything.
Your culture now sets the pattern and tone for the rest of the life of your company–it is much easier to change that now, establish it now, lay the right DNA now, than to try and change it a few years down the line. Imagine trying to change the culture of IBM or Facebook. Better to get it right the first time.
Whole company
It’s not just one set of leaders or staff or employees, and it’s not just customers, and it’s not just the executive, it’s everyone.Your whole company is one body, it moves together, and it benefits together from having everyone supported, all needs met. Productivity goes up, employee satisfaction goes up, creativity goes up (did you know when the stress response is active the creative parts of the brain shut down and the protective and rigid parts fire up? True story.) The whole company’s health leads to better outcomes at all levels.
Whole
world
No company, no organization exists in a vacuum. The bigger you are, the bigger your presence, your market penetration, your brand recognition, the more influence you have:
over your employees
over your customers
over the people who admire you in the public eye, whether they are customers or not.
Think of Apple in the early aughts. If you were an Apple Person that was a whole identity, not just a computer you bought.
As you grow you have the ability to impact the world, not just the humans, not just the company. How do you want that to play out?
Consulting that starts at the root.
So much consulting starts at the top, on the surface, with the presenting problem. Our way is different.
Values. Needs. Integrity. So when your organization is under stress it doesn’t all fall down.
We take time. We listen. Because your relationship with your business is at least as important as your customers’ relationships with you. We’ll get to your customers. But we won’t start there.

You Matter
Not that long ago, I was on a podcast, hosted by a woman named Kate. Her favorite and always thing to say was, “you matter.” It was her last episode; she died of long illness shortly after we recorded.
But she was right. You matter. And if you’re a leader, it’s especially important to keep track of that, to give yourself the grace and attention that you give your team (and to give them the grace and attention you would want to give yourself, or your best friend.) Your needs, your goals, your inspirations are what hold the company to its own ideals and choose its direction, so they need to be really clear–you need to be really clear. Your bottom line, your systems, your org structure, your policies–they all matter, the’ll all get attention. But if you aren’t also a major influence, none of the rest of it will hold in a storm.

One Hour One Shot
You’ve got a specific problem that you need to address: concerns about your own leadership or challenges with your team. An employee not living up to their potential, you have a sense of what’s wrong on your team but not how to address it, maybe there’s a difficult situation you’re going to need to broach and you’re not sure how. This is also a good way to get a taste of working with me before you commit.

weekly 1-1
You want support for yourself. For six months we’ll meet one on one. You can bring something different every time or a set of things you’d like to develop and work through in our time together. This is especially useful if you don’t have a team yet or are just starting to build one. We can set up the kind of systems that support everyone, and make sure you write job descriptions that will be sustainable.

Team Support with Leader 1-1
There’s something off, but you don’t know what. You’re pretty sure you’re not seeing it, and no one will talk to you about it, but it’s just. not. right. Or you’re looking to grow and you don’t WANT it to become an entire circus, you want it to go as smoothly as it can go. You want to take care of your people. You want to take care of yourself. You can’t afford to get overwrought or resentful or brittle. I’ll sit in on team meetings and also work with you one on one behind the scenes.
